Gaze Club

What do you see?

Art writing often says a lot but doesn't communicate much, other than to tell the average person that they definitely don't understand art.

This blog is an attempt to make looking at art more accessible. I don't pretend to say whether particular art is "good". I just want to help myself and others think and feel things about it.

I also teach English to adults. In the ESOL world, we like to make students describe pictures. Students often give interpretations when we do this. A follow-up question we use is, "What do you see that makes you say that?"
I promise to always answer that question when I write about art.

I am based in NYC.
